Hypergrid – visiting other worlds

How OpenSim Hypergrid works with OpenGenesisLINK, including travel between virtual worlds, grid connectivity and Firestorm compatibility.

Hypergrid compatibility

Hypergrid – visiting other worlds

In plain language: Hypergrid connects separately operated virtual grids so avatars can travel between them.

What this means

OpenGenesisLINK continues this OpenSimulator feature; compatibility depends on setup and the remote grid.

  • The destination may be located in a different grid
  • Visitors continue to use compatible viewers
  • Both grids require compatible security and configuration

How does it work?

If two grids support Hypergrid and are configured correctly, avatars can travel to foreign regions. Public grid addresses, accessible services and valid security settings are required.

The 0.9.3.8 release notes report successful Hypergrid travel and offline-message checks. This does not guarantee compatibility with every possible external grid configuration.

Status and references

Current status: 0.9.3.8 Stable is the last released stable server version (8 October 2026). 0.9.3.10 Dev contains ongoing development, not a stable release. Source code alone does not prove completed functionality or real-world compatibility.
